Cosmo’s Corner: Survival stories

Meow friends, it’s Cosmo the library cat. As you may have noticed, it’s been a bit cold here lately. I have a luxuriant coat that helps me keep warm, but you poor humans hardly have any fur, even in winter! For those of you who like playing outdoors in all kinds of weather, it might be a good idea to check out some books about outdoor survival at Grand County Public Library.

For young readers, we have books like ”Survivor Kid: A Practical Guide to Wilderness Survival” by Denise Long and “Kids Survival Guide: Practical Skills for Dangerous Situations” by Ben Hubbard. These books have information about preparing for and surviving a variety of situations, including cold weather.

There are also a lot of survival books for adults. “How to Stay Alive: The Ultimate Survival Guide for Any Situation” by Bear Grylls is full of information and instructions about what to do in a variety of tough situations, including avalanches and even driving safely in snow. If you want to focus on winter recreation, we have “Complete Guide to Winter Camping” by Kevin Callan, ”Essential Guide to Winter Recreation” by Andrew Vietze, and “Winter in the Wilderness: A Field Guide to Primitive Survival Skills” by Dave Hall and Jon Ulrich.

Read some of these books this winter and maybe you can become a skilled and knowledgeable outdoor adventurer (if you aren’t one already). I, on the other paw, plan to spend the rest of this wintertime curled up in my favorite places around the library, staying snug and warm. Have fun and stay safe, my friends! Good bye for now!
