Cosmo’s Corner: Winter Reading Challenge

Happy Meow Year friends! It’s Cosmo the Library Cat. Grand County Public Library is starting the year off with an Online Winter Reading Challenge for all ages. Our challenge, “Read for a Better World,” encourages participants to explore diversity, empathy, and action through books.

Our community has unlimited access to Lerner Publishers’ “Read for a Better World” themed ebooks for the month of January through this challenge’s activities! Participants earn a registration prize (a packet of hot chocolate mix!), virtual badges and completion prizes. You just need to read at least four hours before the end of January to complete the challenge. Reading to others, like your little brother or pet guinea pig, totally counts and having someone read aloud to you does, too. Any type of thing you read also counts, including school textbooks, graphic novels, magazines, newspapers, or audiobooks.

You can log the minutes you spend reading using our reading challenge website or use the Beanstack Tracker app on your phone. Visit our website (tinyurl.com/gcplread) for more details or call us at the library (435-259-1111). I’m hoping someone will read some stories to me this month for the challenge. In the meantime, I’m going to take a long nap or two. Winter is such a deliciously sleepy time for me! Goodbye for meow!
