Red Devils have 25 personal records at Richfield Invitational

The Grand County High School swimming team took second in the boys division and third in the girls division at the Richfield Invitational, which took place on Dec. 6 and 7, setting 25 new personal records in the process. The boys scored 342 team points, behind host Richfield’s 624, while the girls scored 243.5 team points behind Richfield’s 500 and Timpanogos’ 466.

Pat Pakkarato and Brendan Moore each won individual events at the Richfield Invitational. Pakkarato won both the 200-yard individual medley (2:21.90) and the 100-yard butterfly (1:01.10), while Moore won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:11.66) and placed eighth in the 100-yard freestyle (1:02.59).

Pakkarato and Moore were also part of the 200-yard medley relay team, taking second at 2:00.28 along with Arthur Hawks and Duncan Clark. In the 200-yard freestyle relay, Hawks, Moore, Pakkarato and Stryder Young took third at 1:47.17.

Camron Stotz had a strong meet in the longer distances, taking third in the 500-yard freestyle (6:23.80) and seventh in the 200-yard freestyle (2:17.20). He was joined in the 200 by Hawks (10th, 2:21.61), Young (11th, 2:21.88) and David Minor (18th, 2:59.83). Young also swam the 500, taking fourth at 6:31.26.

In the shorter distances, the Red Devil boys had five swimmers in the 50-yard freestyle: Clark (15th, 29.40), Conor Duniway (24th, 33.79), Brayden Larsen (26th, 34.60), Tagert Farnsworth (28th, 34.73) and Ryder Murdock (31st, 38.69); and three swimmers in the 100-yard freestyle: Moore (eighth, 1:02.59), Luke Shafer (17th, 1:13.79) and Duniway (23rd, 1:21.20).

GCHS also had three swimmers in the boys 100-yard backstroke as Clark took fourth (1:16.24), Farnsworth took seventh (1:20.11) and Larsen was disqualified. GCHS had four swimmers in the 100-yard breaststroke. In addition to Moore’s win, Murdock took 11th (1:28.35), Shafer took 14th (1:31.17) and Minor took 16th (1:37.31) in the race. Young, Clark, Stotz and Shafer took sixth in the 400-yard freestyle relay at 4:31.83.

For the girls, Zoe Campbell took fourth in the 500-yard freestyle at 7:55.15, and eighth in the 200-yard freestyle at 2:46.17; Aly Bertoch took ninth at 2:49.36.

Neelie Relph took sixth in the 50-yard freestyle at 32.89, followed by Mekker Relph in 13th at 35.81 and Kaistin Oliver in 23rd at 43.25. In the 100-yard freestyle, Neelie Relph took seventh at 1:15.77, followed by Mallory Maughan in 10th at 1:21.02 and McKenna Thorburg in 13th at 1:30.51.

Neelie Relph, Zoe Warren, Maughan and Bertoch took fourth in the 200-yard freestyle relay at 2:11.64. In the 400-yard freestyle relay, Relph, Warren, Campbell and Bertoch took third at 4:55.50. Warren had two individual races, placing sixth in the 100-yard breaststroke at 1:33.64 and taking a disqualification in the 100-yard butterfly. Rounding out the girls results with the 100-yard backstroke, Mekker Relph took fourth at 1:37.15, Maughan took fifth at 1:37.30, Thorburg took seventh at 1:41.50 and Oliver took 10th at 1:52.23.

GCHS next swims its final two home meets of the season this weekend as North Summit, South Summit and South Sevier join the Red Devils at the Moab Recreation and Aquatic Center Friday, Dec. 13, at 3:30 p.m.

GCHS, North Summit, South Summit and Carbon will compete on Saturday, Dec. 14, at 10 a.m.
