Grand County High School’s football, volleyball and girls soccer teams were each shut out last week. The Red Devils football team lost 34-0 at Richfield in its regular season gridiron finale on Thursday, Oct. 17, while the volleyball team fell 3-0 to Carbon after a hard-fought battle. The girls soccer team’s season ended in the second round of the state playoffs with an 8-0 loss to Judge Memorial on Wednesday, Oct. 16.

Subhead: Football

The Red Devils entered the football game versus Richfield with an identical record and similar resume to the Wildcats, but the Wildcats’ Brittyn Riddle had a monster game both offensively and defensively. The Wildcats stymied the Red Devil offense, holding run-heavy GCHS to 224 yards on 39 carries.

Riddle had 200 yards and two touchdowns rushing for the Wildcats, while also collecting 15 tackles and an interception defensively.

GCHS senior Bryant Troutt had 124 yards on 26 carries, and completed 5-of-14 passes for 50 yards. GCHS senior Brayden Cloud had 54 yards on six carries, and also had a strong defensive effort with eight tackles and an interception. Senior Brayden Troutt led GCHS with 12 tackles. With the loss, GCHS finished the regular season 13th in the RPI rankings with a 5-5 record, 3-2 in Region 12 play. The Red Devils will play at Manti in the first round of the state tournament, scheduled for Friday, Oct. 25 at 4 p.m. The Templars are fourth in the RPI at 7-2, with their losses coming to No. 1 North Sanpete and No. 2 Juab.

Subhead: Volleyball

In volleyball, GCHS played at Carbon and kept the score close in each of the three games, but ultimately lost 25-22, 25-23, 25-20. The Lady Red Devils’ regular-season finale was at San Juan on Tuesday, Oct. 22. Results weren’t available at press time. The volleyball team had an 18-10 record, 5-4 in Region 12, following the Carbon match, and will compete in the state 3A tournament on Tuesday and Wednesday, Oct. 29 and 30, at Utah Valley University in Orem.
