Boys golf
The Grand County High School boys golf team’s season ended with a sixth-place finish at the UHSAA Utah State 3A tournament on Oct. 1 and 2. The Red Devils shot 701 over the two-day event. Junior Rafe Saunders shot a two-day 157 for fourth in 3A, followed by senior Luke Williams in 19th at 170, senior Dylan Shocknmyer in 33rd at 186 and junior Corbin Mays in 36th at 188.
Girls soccer
The GCHS Lady Red Devils lost 4-0 to San Juan on Thursday, Oct. 3, finishing the season with a 2-8 record.
Girls volleyball
The Lady Red Devils beat South Sevier 3-1 on senior recognition night on Oct. 3, winning 25-21 in the first game, 25-18 in the second, losing 25-16 in the third, and winning 25-20 in the fourth. Seniors Chloe Book and Domenique Jones were honored before the contest.
The Lady Red Devils lost at home on Oct. 5 to Richfield, the No. 2 team in the 3A RPI rankings, in a five-game barn-burner. GCHS won the first game 27-25 and the second game 28-26, but Richfield won the third 25-21, the fourth 30-28 and the fifth 15-10. With the loss, the Lady Red Devils sit at No. 5 in the 3A RPI Rankings with a 13-5 record, 5-3 in Region 12 play.
The Lady Red Devils are scheduled to play at the Sevier Valley Invitational on Oct. 11 and 12 before playing at Carbon on Oct. 16 at 6:30 p.m.
Girls tennis:
The Lady Red Devils earned a 5-0 sweep in their home finale over San Juan on Oct. 1 before competing in the Region 12 Championship tournament on Oct. 4, where Kyla Jackman won the region title in No. 3 singles.
The Lady Red Devils also had state qualifiers in No. 1 and No. 2 singles, and No. 2 doubles. Maara Holyoak took fourth place in No. 1 singles, Kiersten Kimmerle was region runner-up in No. singles and Chloe Talbot and Julia Crane took fifth in No. 2 doubles. Jenna Hawks and Jenny Kopell didn’t qualify for the state tournament, finishing sixth in No. 1 doubles.
The two-day state tournament is scheduled to take place on Oct. 11 and 12 at Liberty Park in Salt Lake City.
