Red Devil Mountain Bikers contend for state title in both the boys and girls divisions

The 32 students of Moab’s Red Devil Mountain Biking team took first place on points in Division 3 at the second NICA race of the year, held at Richfield, Utah, on Saturday September 7.

A total of 1,080 high- and middle- schoolers rode between one and four laps on the 5.7 mile course.

“Every student gave their best effort,” team leaders said.

At the end of the day four Moab athletes stood on the podium: Ryder Murdock sped to second place in Boys Junior Varsity Division 2 B; Jackson Sorensen came fifth in boys Junior Varsity Division 2 A; Michael Johnston came fourth in Freshman boys Division 2 B; and Ariann Child placed fifth in Girls Junior Varsity Division A.

Inclusion of young women on the team has grown greatly this season, to almost a third of the team.

The next race is September 21 at Cedar City.
