Couple wanted for murder escapes custody in Blanding (UPDATED 9/12)

Update 9/12/19: Blane and Susan Barksdale have been recaptured in Arizona after almost three weeks on the run, reports say. The Navajo County Sheriff’s Department reports that Blane and Susan Barksdale were taken into custody without incident. More information about the arrest will be released tomorrow morning during a joint news conference with the US Marshals.

The Grand County Sheriff’s Office reposted a press release from the Tucson Police Department on social media stating that on the evening of Monday, Aug. 26, Blane Barksdale, 56, and Susan Barksdale, 59, overpowered two security officers and escaped custody in Blanding, UT, while being extradited from Henrietta, NY, to Pima County, AZ.

The Barksdales are husband and wife and are wanted in connection with the murder of 72 year-old Frank Bligh on April 16, 2019, in Tucson, AZ.

“Blane has numerous tattoos on his arms and hands,” the press release stated. “The Barksdales’ direction of travel is currently unknown.

Investigators have information that they are possibly traveling through Arizona. They were last seen driving a red GMC Sierra pickup truck (license plate AZ: 127XTY) with damage to the front passenger side and rear bumper.”

The Barksdales are believed to be armed and dangerous and officials say they “should not be approached.”

Officials advise anyone who sees the Barksdales to call 911 immediately. Anyone with possible information on their whereabouts is urged to call 911 or 88-CRIME.

The FBI, US Marshals and Apache County Sheriff’s Office are assisting in the investigation.
