2020 Census committee seeks members

Dear Editor:

I am writing to see if community leaders would be willing to serve on Moab’s Complete Count Committee, which is an advisory group for the upcoming 2020 census. The time commitment is minimal, just two or three 1-hour meetings over the next year or so, with our first meeting scheduled for Wednesday, June 12, at 11 a.m. in the Moab City Council conference room.

We are seeking committee members that represent a broad slice of our community, including business, education, community service organizations, faith-based organizations, health care and government officials. We will be joined by a representative from the U.S. Census Bureau, who will provide us with training and orientation on June 12.

If you are wondering if this is a good fit and something that you would like to do, perhaps you can come to the first meeting on June 12 and decide whether or not you want to participate. And if you are unable to come, if you would share this info with someone that could represent your group, that would be great. If you think someone needs to be included … please also invite them.

Getting a complete count of our community members is vital in helping Grand County to get much-needed funding for schools, roads, jobs, health care and housing.

I appreciate your willingness to be a trusted voice in getting the word out that the Census is important, safe and can make a difference.
