Wanda Earlene Sutherland Bessire, Feb. 2, 1936 – Feb. 18, 2019

Wanda Earlene Sutherland Bessire, 84, quietly passed from this life on Feb. 18 at Moab Regional Hospital.

Bessire was born on Feb. 2, 1936, in Egnar, Colorado, to Joseph C. and Eunice May Chitwood Sutherland. Bessire was one of five children. Bessire married Jerrel Bessire in 1962, moving to Moab soon after that and was then a lifelong resident of Moab. She had been a member of the Moab First Baptist Church for over 50 years. Bessire and Jerrel had two sons, Kurt in 1962 and Brent in 1966.

Bessire is survived by her son Brent of Grand Junction, Colorado; a sister, Delvina, and a brother, George, both of New Mexico; one step-granddaughter and two great-grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her two brothers, Floyd and Gene; her loving husband, Jerrel; and a son, Kurt.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Feb. 28, at 10:30 a.m. at the Moab First Baptist Church on MiVida Drive. A viewing was held on Wednesday, Feb. 27, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Spanish Valley Mortuary. Burial will be in the Peel Cemetery in Egnar, Colorado.
