GCMS Students of the Month

Grand County Middle School’s Students of the Month of January are eighth-grader Ethan Thompson and seventh-grader Sam Camey.

Ethan’s teachers said he was chosen as Student of the Month for his scholarship, citizenship and character.

“As a student new to the district, he came in with a friendly and motivated attitude and has established himself as a leader in the classroom and outside of school,” his teachers said.

Ethan’s teachers said he has a positive outlook and shows great discipline getting right on task, whatever that task is.

“He is great at math and very willing to explain and share those talents in small groups and in front of the whole room,” his teachers said. “On the grounds he has a kind word and a quick smile for those around him. That guy brightens up the place.”

Ethan said of himself, “I like reading, backpacking, the outdoors and finding pictographs.”

Ethan plays the piano and said he is interested in the stock market.

Ethan’s advice to others is, “Never stop trying.”

Sam is the son of Vilsar Camey and Monica Ovando.

Sam’s teachers said he is the epitome of a student of the month.

“Sammy not only does all his work in a timely manner, but he is always willing to help out anyone else that needs help,” his teachers said. “Sammy comes to class every day with a smile on his face and greets his teachers with kindness and enthusiasm.”

His teachers said he loves to learn and accepts all academic challenges with everything he has.

“Sammy is going to do great things with his life,” his teachers said.

Sam said of himself, “I like to play the guitar, drums, piano and I like to sing.”

Sam said he was born in Georgia, and PE is his favorite class.

Sam’s advice to others is, “Be happy, supportive to other people and you will be happy.”
