Carryn Shepard (left) took the seat of Jaylyn Hawks as the students filed into the council’s chambers. The students were with Nicole Wilson’s fifth-grade class at Helen M. Knight Elementary. Wilson said, “In our curriculum we do a lot with government so we are here today to learn about how local government functions.” Five fifth-grade classes toured Grand County offices and met with several county leaders, including Grand County Sheriff Steven White and Grand County Council chair Mary McGann.
