Kayaker rescued at Canyonlands National Park

In September, Grand County Search and Rescue assisted the National Park Service (NPS) in locating a kayaker on the Green River in Canyonlands National Park. Grand County Search and Rescue (GCSAR) said a 71-year-old kayaker was re-enacting a trip that he had made 35 years ago in the same kayak, but had messaged his wife via an inReach satellite messenger that he was having difficulty. Using a jet boat, NPS Ranger Jake Suter and GCSAR’s Nadi Ardalan located the kayaker overnight on Sept. 7, but due to darkness and low water conditions, they waited until first light to make the return trip with the kayaker to Mineral Bottom.
