Grand girls soccer, boys golf teams compete

The Grand County High School girls soccer team won its season opener 6-3 versus Millard on Thursday, Aug. 9, in Moab.

Corah Moody scored four times for the Lady Red Devils, who also got goals from Kyha Gritts and Olivia Medina. The Lady Red Devils have almost three weeks between matches as they next play on Tuesday, Aug. 28, versus Richfield.

The boys golf team was in action the day before at the Moab Golf Club, placing second in Region 15 play with 343 strokes, four behind first-place Richfield’s 339 strokes. Manti was third with 351, Emery was fourth with 360, North Sanpete was fifth with 363, San Juan was sixth with 383 and South Sevier was seventh with 398. Sophomore Rafe Saunders was the top Red Devil scorer, shooting an 82. Senior Jaxen Saunders shot 83 and junior Luke Williams shot 84.

Region 15 reconvenes at Millsite Golf Course in Ferron on Thursday, Aug. 16, at 11 a.m.

Grand’s remaining teams are scheduled to begin play in the next week and a half as the football team opens play at Morgan on Friday, Aug. 17, at 7 p.m., the cross country team runs at the Highland Invitational in Salt Lake City on Friday, Aug. 17, and the volleyball team plays at the Dixie Flyer Invitational in St. George on Aug. 24 and 25. The girls tennis team was scheduled to play at Union and Uintah on Saturday, Aug. 10 and at Carbon on Tuesday, Aug. 14. They open their home slate versus Manti on Thursday, Aug. 23 at 10 a.m.

Lady Red Devils win opener
