Richard Lawton M.D., Ph.D.. is now seeing patients at the Moab Regional Hospital. He will visit the Moab Regional Hospital twice a month from his practice, Orthopedic Specialists of Durango, and will provide orthopedic coverage for the emergency room one weekend each month.

Lawton received his medical degree from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. After medical school, orthopedic surgeons complete a surgical residency, typically lasting five years. Lawton’s residency was at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. After completing residency, some surgeons choose to do additional training in a fellowship program. Lawton’s fellowship was completed at Steadman-Hawkins Clinic in Vail, Colorado. He also has completed extensive research in the fields of orthopedic and sports medicine and is specialized in surgical and non-surgical treatment.

Lawton spoke about his philosophy, and said, “I prioritize personal care. I work with each patient to develop a treatment plan that works with their lifestyle and also reflects evidence-based practices.” He continued, “Orthopedic medicine continues to advance with a focus on less invasive surgeries, ensuring procedures are data-driven for the best patient outcomes, decreasing the time in the operating room, and ensuring a smooth recovery.”

Jen Sadoff, CEO of Moab Regional Hospital, is excited to welcome Dr. Lawton’s expertise.

“Moab is an active community,” Sadoff said. “When people are injured, they are eager to get back to the activities that they love. Dr. Lawton’s expertise from 22 years of practice and top-tier training will be a great local resource for our community.”
