Kids to perform circus acts at Center Street Gym

Phoenix Youth Circus Arts held two one-week circus camp sessions in June for kids in Moab.

On Friday, June 29, the kids will end their camp week with a performance for family and the public at 2:15 p.m. at the Center Street Gym, 203 E. Center St.

This is the second year that Phoenix Youth Circus Arts has held camp in Moab, said Jens Larson, director at Phoenix Youth Circus Arts.

Camps were fully booked this year, but Larson said there will be an additional coach next year in order to accommodate more kids.

Larson became interested in hosting the camp in Moab after getting to know the community through longtime Moab resident Ranna Bieschke.

“We traveled together with a circus based in San Francisco in the late 1980s,” Larson said. “I was a professional acrobat for 19 years, then taught in Phoenix public schools for 14 years, and for the last four years I have been teaching circus arts to kids in Arizona.”

Performance begins at 2:15 p.m. on Friday, June 29
