How about a traffic tunnel?

Dear Editor:

Much of the discussion about a traffic bypass centers on choosing between routes along the west edge of Moab. Surely we can be more creative than that? Lin Ottinger said that he proposes a route using Kane Creek to access the mesa top. That may or may not be a good option, but it opens up the possibilities.

My proposal is for a tunnel with its location to-be-determined. The technology for building tunnels under cities is well-developed. A tunnel would remove a major portion of traffic noise from town. Surely the technology exists to filter the exhaust from the tunnel to remove all those pollutants that we are breathing.

We would not destroy housing along the west side of town we so badly need, nor turn a residential area into a noise and pollution sink. Definitely a win-win solution.
