Retired Lt. Col. Don Murray stood last week at the World War II memorial in front of the Grand County Courthouse to commemorate the Dec. 7, 1941, attack on Pearl Harbor.
Murray was assigned to Wheeler Field in the field artillery unit adjacent to Pearl Harbor. The field artillery unit set up its guns in case of an invasion.
Murray was later sent to pilot training and commissioned as an officer. Over his 25-year career, Murray flew a variety of aircraft starting with heavy bombers.
He is one of a small number of Pearl Harbor survivors.
