Al Washburn, October 9, 1930 – February 13, 2017

Albert Louis Washburn Jr., 86, passed away on February 13, 2017, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Al was born on October 9, 1930, in Los Angeles, California, to Albert Louis Sr. and Eltha Staten Washburn. He grew up in the Los Angeles area and met the love of his life Sondra Rose and they were married on January 30, 1953. He worked in construction for most of his life until he retired. In 2000, they moved to Moab and he volunteered at the Community Church. He was a member of the Gideon International Society and helped place Bibles in hotels and gave them to needy families.

Al enjoyed the outdoors, hiking, fishing – especially deep sea fishing – and driving tractors.

He is survived by his wife Sondra of Moab; three sons, Kim (Susan) of Washington, Kevin (Robin) of Moab and Kory (Janet) of Colorado; three sisters, Nelva Jean (Fred) Johnson and Alice May McDonald, both of California, and Donna Lee (Ted) Spradlin of Texas; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Kristopher Alan Washburn, and his only brother, John T. Washburn.

At Al’s request, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held in his honor on Saturday February 18, 2017, at 11 a.m. at the Community Church.
