Grand County High School’s Students of the Year for the upcoming 2016-2017 school year were recognized during the annual end-of-year pizza lunch held at the Moab Elks Lodge on Tuesday, May 17.

Jayelen Knowles and Kenyon Birdwell are currently juniors who previously received the school’s Student of the Month award during the 2015-16 school year; Knowles was honored in September 2015 and Birdwell was honored in January 2016.

Knowles is the daughter of John and Jacque Knowles. She was a member of the state championship swim team and has been involved in cross-country and track, in addition to marching band, Science Olympiad, Quiz Bowl and numerous other activities.

Birdwell, the son of Drew and Chelsea Birdwell, was recently elected student body secretary for next year. He has been involved in numerous sports and activities throughout high school, including football, soccer and basketball.

In addition to Knowles and Birdwell, the 16 other GCHS students who received Student of the Month honors during the 2015-16 school year were also recognized during the May 17 luncheon, along with members of the school’s National Honor Society chapter.
