Moab woman found dead near Paradox

The Montrose County Coroner’s Office of Medical Investigation and Montrose County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the death of a Moab woman whose body was discovered in Lion Canyon near Paradox, Colorado.

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation positively identified 54-year-old Kimberly Ann Anderson Burchell through a fingerprint comparison.

The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office first alerted the Montrose County Sheriff’s Office that Burchell was missing on Thursday, May 5. Burchell was last seen at 7 a.m., on Wednesday, May 4, while she was camping in the Lion Creek area south of Buckeye Reservoir, where she and others were hunting antlers.

The Montrose County Sheriff’s Office and the Montrose County Sheriff’s Posse led the search for Burchell.

No foul play is suspected in her death. The cause and manner of death are pending the results of the autopsy, including a toxicology report.
