Dear Editor,
I understand the need for funding improvements in the national parks and fully support the new fee hikes announced last week (“NPS announces fee hikes,” Aug. 20-26, 2015 Moab Sun News). One suggestion I would like to make to sweeten the deal: allow Moab residents to use the parks for free. Call it a gratuity for our patience and inconvenience. Residents, outfitters and guides could register their vehicles with NPS and receive a window sticker good for one year.
This approach would leave the NPS room for further increases without affecting the community in the least.
