City baseball, softball programs expand beyond region

For the first time ever, the Moab City Recreation Department’s baseball and softball teams played games this season with rival towns from beyond the region, resulting in great match-ups with players from Emery County and the Colorado towns of Nucla and Naturita.

With the limited number of games included in its region schedule, Moab City Recreation Director Chad Wright said his department also added post-season match-up games for fun and relaxed games with just Moab teams under the lights.

“Players, coaches and spectators have enjoyed the fun atmosphere and friendly hometown feel of playing each other to wrap up the season,” Wright said. “Overall, it has been a great season as our teams have battled through challenging weather, ranging from torrential downpours to scorching heat.”

Wright said his department sincerely appreciates the countless hours that coaches devoted to the programs this season.

“We also appreciate our umpires who worked long hard hours behind the plate and out in the field for consistently making the tough calls,” he said. “We also had an impressive field crew who kept our fields looking great and added a few minor improvements, including permanent clipboards in the dugouts and ball tubes through the backstop fence.”
