Heavy rains bring flash flooding

A sudden downpour in the early afternoon hours of Monday, Sept. 29 resulted in flooding in the Dogwood Ave. area of Moab, including the Village Market. Store manager Bob Gilmore said that the flooding was exacerbated by a poorly functioning storm drain in the shopping center parking lot. He said he had to close for the day at around 2 p.m. “We hate to turn people away,” Gilmore said. Chile Pepper Bike Shop owner Tracy Reed said that she “was lucky” to sustain only minimal flood damage at her business. Parts of Moab received nearly an inch of rain on Monday, and nearly two inches between Saturday and Monday. [Photos by Kathy McGill]
