A valuable lesson

As part of a public safety demonstration for all Grand County High School juniors, Utah Highway Patrol trooper Brandan Custer administers a mock field-sobriety test to GCHS senior Jacey Johnson in front of the high school on Thursday, April 3. The annual event simulates a fatal, alcohol-involved car accident, and takes place just days before the Junior Prom. Grand County Sheriff’s deputy Curt Brewer led the coordination of the event and said he hopes that the realistic event teaches teenagers the dangers of drinking and driving, as well as the importance of seat belts. The following organizations contributed time, personnel and resources to staging the demonstration: Utah Highway Patrol, Moab City Police Department, Grand County Sheriff’s Office, Grand County E.M.S., Moab Fire Department, Classic Aero Medical, Grand County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue, Grand County High School, Spanish Valley Mortuary, Classic Lifeguard Air Medical, and Nation’s Towing.
