BEACON Students of the Month

Willow Nichols is the BEACON enrichment Student of the Month for January at Helen M. Knight Elementary. She is the daughter of Laura Kruta and Douglas Nichols. Nichols is in Ms. Henderson’s third grade class. The BEACON Enrichment staff chose Nichols as the Student of the Month because of her enthusiasm for everything she does with BEACON.

“She is observant, interesting, funny, and engages students and staff equally well—and we love her smile!” said Katherine Sullivan, the site coordinator for BEACON enrichment at HMK.

Nichols participates in a number of different BEACON clubs, such as Under the Sea, Bugs, Animals, and Amazing Bodies.

When asked what she likes about BEACON, she said, “Everything we do!”

As her award for being named the BEACON Student of the Month, Nichols has received a golden ticket to Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Lovers’ Fling, set for Feb. 8. This event is sponsored by BEACON and Club Red.

When asked about her favorite type of chocolate, she said, “It’s so hard to choose, I like them all.”

Isaiah Singer is the BEACON academic Student of the Month for January. He is the son of LaRanda Morgan and Brian Singer. He is in kindergarten in Mrs. Crane’s class.

Singer was initially excited about attending BEACON, but now he attends every day, works hard and even helps other students who are struggling.

“He is really starting to pick things up,” said Caryn McGinty. “He is a pleasure to have in our group.”

Sasha Halstead is BEACON’s Student of the Month for January at Grand County Middle School (GCMS).

Halstead is the granddaughter of Ron and Cookie Halstead. She is in eighth grade and has attended BEACON since seventh grade.

She was chosen for January’s Student of the Month because she works hard and is proud of what she accomplishes. She sets goals, helps her friends, doesn’t procrastinate her work and is always “on top of it.”

“Sasha is a great example and role model to those around her and her hard work is definitely paying off this year at the middle school,” said Ashly Hunter, the GCMS program director. “The tutors at GCMS BEACON Afterschool Program are excited for her and are proud the hard work she puts forth.”

The BEACON Students of the Month each received a golden ticket to the Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Lovers’ Fling on Feb. 8 at the Moab Arts and Recreation Center. The fund-raiser will benefit the BEACON Afterschool Program and Moab Teen Center: Club Red.
