The power of words

The Moab Rotary Club participates in their annual Literacy Program that provides dictionaries to local third grade students.

One of the Utah core curriculum topics studied in third grade is: “How to use and discover valuable information found in dictionaries”.

“Our local club donated 142 personalized dictionaries to all Moab third graders and 16 to Green River third graders,” said Rotarian Saina Carey, who works with Moab Premier Properites. ”The students were surprised and excited to find out that they were allowed to keep their personally dedicated dictionary for their rest of their lives.”

Helen M. Knight Elementary school teachers Mrs. McGann, Mrs. Henderson, Ms. Torgerson, Ms. Godschalx, and Mr. Strawinski assisted the Rotary members in handing out the dictionaries to their students Monday, Dec. 16.

Chelsi Olson from The Moab Charter School helped present her third graders with their dictionaries.

Later that afternoon Rotarian Danielle Hansen from Eastern Utah Credit Union and Green River third grade teacher Kay Nelson presented her 26 students with their personalized dictionaries.
