A community yoga class featuring all-levels hatha flow will be available 4 p.m. at Moab Yoga, 37 E. Center St. The community class is by donation and half of the profits are given directly to local nonprofit organizations.  A new non-profit is selected each month. August’s proceeds will benefit The Moab Free Health Clinic. 

AUGUST 19

“Music for a Cause”, 8 to 10 p.m. At the Moab Backyard Theater on 100 South. Performers include The Haley Peachcot Trio, Edward Tennyson, Scott Ibex Trio and John Olschewski with Jeff Brennan.  Donations will benefit the Moab Free Health Clinic. Scott Ibex will be releasing his album “Dragonbreath”, with a portion of the proceeds from the sale to support the Moab Free Health Clinic.

AUGUST 20

Moab Area Chamber of Commerce luncheon will be held at noon at the Moab Regional Hospital. Hospital CEO Robb Austin will speak on new developments at the hospital. $15 per person.

Open Mic Night and Delicious Potluck sponsored by Moab Poets and Writers, 6 p.m. At Eklecticafe, 352 N. Main St. Special invites to: locals and visitors – old-timers and those new-to-Moab – introverts and extroverts – hikers, bikers and boaters. Read your poetry, songs, or short prose or just relax and listen.

A free screening of the classic western “Stagecoach” will be at 8 p.m., Aug. 23 on the Moab Information Center, on the corner of Main and Center streets. Drinks and popcorn will be available for purchase, as well as drawing tickets for two river trips from Adrift Adventures for $1 a piece or $5 for six. All proceeds go to the Canyonlands Natural History Association’s Discovery Pool Program to support science and research on the Colorado Plateau.

Moab Bull Challenge – A two-day event of pro-level bull riding, this is the Lane Frost Challenge Tour Finals of 2013. See top money earners of the tour competing for a championship buckle, chaps, saddle & money. For the kids a money chase, mutton bustin’ and sheep roping has been added to the event. Fee Free National Park Days – NPS Birthday – The Southeast Utah Group of the National Park Service (Arches and Canyonlands National Parks and Hovenweep and Natural Bridges National Monuments) is joining all national parks across the country in waiving entrance fees several days in 2013 as a way to encourage people to get outdoors and spend time with their friends and family in the national parks this year. Laura Martin ~ Living on the Margins: Expressions of the Northern San Juan Ancestral Pueblo People in Canyonlands National Park. ~ The Needles District of Canyonlands is known for its’ red rock spires, twisting canyons, and somewhat elusive water.  It is also known for its’ spectacular rock art and plentiful masonry granaries.  During the late 10th and 11th centuries, this region played host to a population of Northern San Juan Ancestral Pueblo farmers who found success in growing corn along the broad arable terraces and abandoned meanders of Salt Creek.  Join Park archaeologist Laura Martin for a presentation of findings from recent archaeological studies conducted in Salt Creek that examine land use and the complex cultural expressions that include both Fremont and Mesa Verde traditions.6 p.m. At the Moab Information Center, on the corner of Main and Center streets.
