Monsoon flooding

Flash floods left a half-dozen sections of mud on State Route 128 between the junction of Highway 191 and the turn-off to Castle Valley 17 miles upstream. The portion shown in this photo is near Red Cliffs Lodge at milemarker 13. Utah Department of Transportation crews began clearing mud shortly after midnight on Monday, July 29 to allow traffic to flow. Weatherunderground’s station in Castle Valley reported more than a half-inch of rain on July 28 and 29. The mud from the several flash floods left the Colorado River a bloody red. The National Weather Service is reporting additional flash flood warnings due to any additional moisture will run-off because soils are saturated from the recent precipitation.
