Gear swap this weekend

The annual outdoor gear swap will be from 9 a.m. to noon this Saturday at the WabiSabi Thriftique.

“It is typically one of our busiest days of the year at the Thriftique,” said WabiSabi program manager Mandy Turner. “Last year we had more than twenty vendors.”

This is the seventh year WabiSabi has sponsored the gear swap.

A variety of used outdoor gear should be available, from both individuals and vendors.

“Climbing, boating, biking, hiking, horsebackriding – whatever your sport may be,” Turner said.

“You can shop and swap quality used sports gear.”

A gear swap may be a good option for sports enthusiasts who have a hard to giving away their equipment.

“We understand that used sports gear can be a difficult item to donate to a thrift store because of monetary and sometimes emotional value,” Turner said. “But we have a lot of gear in this town and many who need quality used gear at a reasonable cost.

WabiSabi will also have gear for sale left behind by Moab’s seasonal workers.

“Gear Swap is an opportunity for WabiSabi to connect resources with need effectively, therefore keeping more stuff out of the landfill. And the effect is long term,” Tuner said. “It isn’t just about the stuff. We are trying to connect people, too.”

There is a suggested donation of 10 percent from the vendors to help support WabiSabi and the Nonprofit Partners.
