Melanie Beth Nyland

Melanie Beth Nyland of Spanish Fork died on Feb. 22 at Intermountain Medical Center after a valiant fight with heart failure.

Nyland was born July 10, 1977 in Oakland, Calif., to James K. and Gayle M. Gee, the fourth of seven children. Her family moved to Spanish Fork where she graduated from high school.

She married Jared Nyland in 1999. The two were later sealed in the Mt. Timpanogoes Temple. Together they have two beautiful daughters. Melanie loved being a wife and mother. She also enjoyed crafts, taking photos, shopping, gardening and reading.

In 2005 Melanie received a heart transplant and was able to enjoy eight more years with her family. For a short time she worked at East Meadows Elementary School.

Melanie is survived by her husband of 14 years, Jared Nyland; daughters Halle (13) and Kyah (9); mother Gayle M. Gee; brothers James and Christopher Gee; sisters Cynthia Taylor, Allison Muhlestein, Rachel Fawson; 16 nephews and eight nieces. She is also survived by her father- and mother-in-law Jim and Cheryl Nyland, brother-in-law JD Nyland and sister-in-law Tina Burgess.

She is preceded in death by her father James K. Gee, sister Alisa Gee, cousin Andrea Brierley Slade and both sets of grandparents.

Funeral services were held March 1 at the Canyon Ridge Ward chapel in Spanish Fork.

Her family would like to thank the IMC heart transplant team and staff for their loving care, as well as those who provided service and support. In lieu of flowers an account has been set in Melanie Nyland’s name at Mountain America Credit Union.
