When it rains it pours

Joette Langianese drove down Kane Creek Road to see waterfalls when it began raining Thursday, Oct. 11. She discovered far more than she expected. The water from waterfalls caused the road to flood at Moonflower Canyon. Drivers were stuck on the road for about a half-hour while road crew moved debris from the flooding. Nearly a half-inch of rain fell on Moab on Thursday, according to Canon Vista weather station. Main Street quickly flooded with water and began to spill over onto the sidewalks. Despite the flooding on Thursday, Moab has been experiencing a drought in the last year. Only 2.6 inches of precipitation has been recorded within city limits since Jan. 1. In comparison, 4.5 inches of precipitation was recorded during the same time period last year. (Photo courtesy of Joette Langianese)
