New mountain bike club at GCHS

There’s a new mountain bike club at the Grand County High School. GCHS art teacher Christa Green and Michele Hill are coaching the team.

The club had their first student meeting to discuss fundraising and scheduling practices in preparation for four races for this first season.

Students and parents will be approaching businesses for sponsorships in the next few weeks. Students and parents will also be working the football game concession stand at the high school, and running aid stations at local Moab events.

The team is coed and more female student athletes are needed for the team to be able to race.

Upcoming rides include Round Valley, Sept. 8; Sherwood Hills, Sept. 22; Lambert Park, Oct. 6; and Dutch Hollow, Oct. 20.

Two mandatory skills clinics that need to be attended before athletes can participate in the practice schedule will be held at the GCHS parking lot. The first is 7 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 2; the second is 7 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 16.
