Climber falls at Fisher Towers

A 25-year-old woman from St. Paul,Minn., fell while climbing at Fisher Towers this morning.

She suffered rib, spine and head injuries and was flown by Life Flight Helicopter to Intermountain Healthcare in Murray, Utah.

According to the Grand County Sheriff’s Office, the woman was climbing Ancient Art Tower. She slipped and fell while trying to hook into the bolt.

She fell about 20 feet, landing on a ledge about 200 feet up from the base of the tower.

Involved in the rescue were Grand County Search and Rescue, the Park Service and climbers from Moab Desert Adventures and Moab Cliffs and Canyons.

The Life Flight helicopter flew in from Salt Lake City because of its hoisting capabilities, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Chris Murphy with Moab Cliffs and Canyons was one of the climbers who helped with the rescue.

“She’s pretty lucky,” he said. “Where she landed, it could be a lot worse.”
